As the financial crisis continues to hover over Team Washo, further problems have been encountered by the Staffordshire based team. Racing has been suspended indefinitely, and the team's future seems to be looking bleaker by the minute.
Former sponsers Green Planet have removed all financial backing, and the council have refused to step in to support the troubled team, saying that they have more important areas to spend their money on during the current recession.
No new investor or buyer has been found for the cycling club, and with funds running on empty, the team have been unable to pay the riders their full wages. The team acknowledges that they can neither expect the riders to race in the current circumstances, and they can't afford to travel around the world to compete.
The team look set to be kicked out of their current facilities as well within a weeks time, as the property will be used for other pursuits. Many of the riders have been told they can take time off leading to Ernst Themmen being amongst the riders to make the trip back to see their family. Others who are in need of cash, have remained in the area completing jobs organised by the team.
Meanwhile manager Dave is jetting off to Italy, making use of the current break. He told our reporter; "It's a busy schedule in cycling and this has allowed me and the riders a break for a while. Of course this isn't ideal and the situation looks bad at the moment, but we've got to hope something materialises."
The team's manager clearly appears to be trying to stay upbeat despite the situation, but his mood may not truly reflect the situation, as reports suggest that if the matter is not resolved soon, then riders will have to be released, and the team faces the daunting prospect of possible liquidation within the month. All in all troubled times are engulfing Team Washo. The question is, what will happen next???
